Yes, I mean you. Are you real

ARE YOU REAL?

Are you real – is an important question we must ask ourselves.

Questions like this; “Are you for real?” Is she/he for real?”

I know we might be wondering why all these questions about being real.

In a world where authenticity is scarce, it’s easy to wonder if anyone is truly genuine. We’re surrounded by fake smiles, pretentious conversations, and superficial relationships. It’s as if everyone is wearing a mask, hiding their true identity/ true selves behind a facade of perfection.

But to be real means what? Is it about being flawless, or being vulnerable and imperfect? Is it about presenting a polished exterior, or about embracing our quirks and flaws?

The Pressure to Conform

We live in a society that often values conformity over individuality. We’re encouraged to fit in, to blend in with the crowd, and to avoid standing out. But in doing so, we risk losing ourselves in the process. We become like robots, mimicking the actions and behaviors of those around us, rather than being true to ourselves

Conformity is the act of changing your behaviors to fit in or go along with the people around you.

Social pressure can sway your behavior—for good and for bad – “Everything Psychology Book (2nd Edition)

The Fear of Vulnerability

Being real requires vulnerability. It means being open and honest, even when it’s uncomfortable or scary. It means sharing our fears, our doubt, our weaknesses with others, and risking the possibility of rejection or judgement. But it’s in these moments of vulnerability that we can truly connect with others and form meaningful relationships.

The Beauty of Imperfection

Being real is not about being perfect, it’s about being imperfect. It’s about embracing our flaws, our mistakes, and our shortcomings. It’s about recognizing that we’re all works in progress, and that it’s okay to not have it all.

The power of Authenticity

When we’re real, we’re authentic. We stay true to ourselves, and we’re not ashamed of it.

We’re not trying to impress anyone or pretend to be someone we’re not. We’re simply being ourselves, without apology or pretension. And it’s this authenticity that sets us free.

Being true to yourself means thinking and acting in ways that align with your own values and feelings—rather than the values of others. If you’re living true to yourself, you feel confident in your identity, and you are pursuing goals that you know will lead to your own happiness.

So, back to my question.

Are you real? Are you true to yourself, or are you hiding behind a mask on imperfection?

Remember, it’s ok to be imperfect, to be vulnerable, and to be authentic. In fact, it’s more than ok – it’s necessary. For when we’re real, we can truly connect with others, and live a life that’s meaningful, fulfilling, and authentic.

Thanks, and God bless.
